'a little more than kin and less than kind'

The Melting Pot Hamlet Blog - or the trials and tribulations of trying to run a small independent theatre company with big ambitions, no money and everyone involved having at least one other day job...!

Hamlet will be happening this April – 3 dates booked at the Arthouse,18th, 20th and 22nd and we’ll be doing a further week in Worcester before taking it to Birmingham where we’ve got our eye on a couple of pubs in the King’s Heath/Moseley area. Venue information will be posted on the website and on facebook as soon as it’s finalised.

When we first started talking about Hamlet, we were casting around for a play, probably a Shakespeare, that we could do in various venues. It could be outside, definitely in the round, at a really fast pace, with lots of changes of costume.  We wanted to have the actors changing character on stage - taking off a jacket and putting on a different coat and..voila..there is the new character.  The fascination for the audience is to be able to see the 'innards' working without losing the credibility of the world being created in front of their eyes.  Another challenge is to be larger than life, but not obvious!  We here at Melting Pot love a challenge...!
